Artist's Comments

i asked you to come over, and within half an hour,
you were at my door.
i had never really known you,
but I realized that the one you were before,
had changed into somebody for whom
i wouldn't mind to put the kettle on.
still I don't know what I can save you from.

I think this is my favorite shot from the ballet-shoot series, simply because we're accquainted with her in-between her poses and forms. You move us closer to her here than perhaps any of the other photos of her, so close that she seems to be caught off-guard, looking over her shoulder in surprise and/or sudden curiosity. We get to appreciate the wide luster of her eyes, the sharp, wise angles of her eyebrows, and the subtle musculature of her shoulders, back, and arms. These are grand elements of her make-up as a dancer/step-interpreter of narrative, but she's not fully disguised by them. Here, she's also a young girl with deliberate attention and a daring awareness of our presence as viewers.

Beautiful photo. :-)

great perspective in that it acknowledges your existance as the photographer
and her acceptance of you as such
so we know you're not a stalker
you're just her photo-loving friend
